Science education has lost the plot
and it's easy to give up, give in, and pass students alongĀ because
š Teachers are being asked to shoulder the weight of the world and judged when they don't
š Regurgitation of a set of memorized facts prioritized overĀ actually having students think has become the norm
šĀ Standardized tests scores seem to be prioritized overĀ humanizing content and showing students how it matters in their lives
š Pacing guides are prioritized over ensuring student understandingĀ
This work is for the science teachers who refuse to accept being treated like a robotĀ
š¤Ā Who refuse to hand wave students through without having the tools they need to face the world
š¤ Who refuse to accept learned helplessness as a reason to give up on students
š¤ Who refuse to allow the education system to exhaust and burn them out
š¤ Who refuse to say 'this is who we've always done it so we can't try something new'
š¤ Who refuse the narrative that some kids just can't do science or aren't meant for it
š¤ Who refuse to throw up their hands and say 'if they really cared they'd figure it out'
Who say 'ain't no way I'm coming up here every day to be miserable and make kids miserable'
It's time to reimagine science education for the better
After a decade in education, earning a PhD in science education, and investing myself in making science education more inclusive, welcoming, and joyful, I know students and teachers deserve infinitely more than endless test prep and rushing to cover all the standards because the pacing guide said so.
When you work with me, we address the root cause of so called student apathy with resources and trainings that build studentsā curiosity and confidence
so that your classroom soundtrack transforms from āthis is too hard, I canāt do itā to students referencing their notes as they have heated debates about the answers.
